Some content from A First Taste of Law has been very popular in 2009, and I thought it is a good idea to bring together the best posts from last year in one page, especially for those who are newly introduced to this blog! And heck, we have been seeing a lot of new readers recently! However, before I give you the links, I would like to say a few things about my blogging experience.
This blog has been started randomly, but since then it has seen some tremendous growth. Some posts have generated media interest in matters hitherto unknown to the general public; stuff that only a few legal geeks used to be bothered about. It has provided resources that law students in the first year or legal aspirants have found to be useful and I feel proud for that.
I have seen the interest growing over time, I have tracked how the amount of time spent and links clicked on the blog has been increasing. I know sometimes you have found something useful here and have shared with your friends, and at other times I have managed to get some of you unhappy with a matter you would have liked to remain undiscussed.
I believe that blogging is a great medium of self expression, and it is the medium of the future. As time goes, more and more people will rely on blogs to communicate and millions to find information relevant to them. Blogs have already emerged as great marketing tools. A blog is unparallel in creating a personal brand, as a weapon of creating your niche and finding an audience.
A blog is, however, not a cakewalk. I know blogs with excellent content that has average readership of two persons per month. That is sheer wastage. If you have something good to say, if you believe there are people who need to hear what you are saying, reach out! It is not that difficult, maybe you have to read up a little on the internet, learn a few tricks here and there - but everything you do on this front will be worth it. I have been going through a great learning experience by working on my blog, and I have throughly enjoyed it.
I would thank my friends and students who have been extremely generous in their content contributions and support otherwise, this has enabled the blog to grow and help a lot more people than what I could initially imagine.
I have only one complain towards my readers: I NEED MORE FEEDBACK to improve this blog! Please leave a comment with your suggestions whenever you can. Suggest topics. Maybe keep in touch on twitter or Facebook and tell me what you would like to see on this blog. That way I can provide a lot more great articles in the coming here that you would find relevant.
Finally, here's what you need: The best of A First Taste of Law from 2009! If you have a favourite article not mentioned here, leave a comment to tell us!
1. Recruitment Red Alert: It is time to look at some new recruiters: The most controversial article so far. Some well wishers have told me that I should not write so openly about such things. I believe that there should be sufficient and verifiable information. If you are joining NUJS spending a lot of money, you should know what to expect. NUJS is still one of the best law schools in the country, a great destination for recruiters, but changes do not wait for anyone. Adapt, survive, excel! I have tried to help you in my way.
2. Internship part I: on Safe Landing: Exclusive content. Your essential guide to internships. I had people from all over the world visiting this page to read up about legal internships, though it is essentially written for Indian law students. First years can read Internship part II: Internship for Beginners.
3. Allen & Overy and Trilegal visit NLS: Getting Acquainted with International Finance: Another exclusive coverage. Very well received. The phenomenal attention to this post emphasises on the lack of information and news relevant to law students. Come on law students, write more blogs, provide cutting edge news about what is hapenning in your campus, and give the professionals a run for their money! Show them what is news and what is not.
4. Legal GK round up for CLAT 2010: One of the achievements of this blog was that we have been able to provide some awesome compilation of legal GK, and this first ever post on Legal GK has been an instant hit with law aspirants. Since then, we have had 3 more round ups of Legal GK on this blog, some more coming up very soon. My classmates and students at IMS kolkata have helped me to compile resources consistently.
5. A battle called NLS – comments on different interest groups fighting over Indian law schools: I doubt that even a single soul liked this post. Someone even found it to be funny, that's the soul reaction to this post. Still, this remains an original post that I am proud of, and this is my personal favourite. Maybe the time for this post has not come yet!
